Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on what kind of help you need and when you need it. Simple daily support, like help with showering, dressing, or getting around the house, often starts around $95 an hour.

More specialised care (like nursing, clinical support, or overnight help) can cost more, sometimes $160 an hour or higher.

If you’re receiving Support at Home funding, the government may cover most of this cost, leaving just participant contribution where required.

Support at Home is for people who want to stay living at home safely and independently. You might qualify if you:

  • Are 65 or older (or 50+ for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people).
  • Are finding everyday tasks harder due to mobility changes, health issues, memory difficulties, or chronic conditions.
  • Need help that friends, family, or community services can’t fully provide.

Your eligibility is confirmed through an assessment by My Aged Care, which also decides your funding level and the types of care you can access.

If you’re approved for Support at Home, the government may fund some of the care you need, including services for dementia. Clinical care is often fully funded, while independence and daily living tasks require personal contributions.

Contributions depend on your income and the level of support you choose, but the system is designed to help make essential care affordable.

If you’re under 65 and have a diagnosed form of dementia, you may be eligible to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which provides funding for supports and services related to your disability.

Choose a provider that proves their trust, local knowledge and flexibility. Look for a provider who can:

  • Connect you with support familiar with your area.
  • Let you shape your support to suit your routines and lifestyle.
  • Offer ongoing oversight and training so staff are skilled and reliable.
  • Keep communication simple and transparent for you and your family.

Providers like Five Good Friends focus on supporting independence at home while staying flexible, so care evolves with your needs, not the other way around.
