Frequently Asked Questions

To get assessed for Support at Home in Newcastle, you start by contacting My Aged Care — that’s the government gateway for subsidised aged care. You can call them or apply online.

Once you’ve applied, an aged care assessor will arrange a visit (usually in your home) to talk through your health, daily needs and what support would help you remain safe, independent and comfortable at home.

After the assessment, you’ll receive a decision letter outlining your eligibility and the funding classification (e.g., Level 1–8) you’ve been assigned. This tells you what kinds of services you can access and roughly how much funding is available in your Support at Home budget.

Yes — absolutely. You don’t need to wait for government funding to start receiving care at home in Newcastle. Many people choose to self-fund in-home care right away, so support is in place without delay.
