Join Swinburne University's Wellbeing Clinic for Older Adults for their upcoming free webinar on ageing entitled Recognising and Responding to Elder Abuse.
Time 4.45‑6pm AEST Date Friday 24 June.
Swinburne University's Wellbeing Clinic for Older Adults is a free and confidential counselling and support service for older adults living in residential settings.
Gary Ferguson and Jacinta Woehl from Senior Rights Victoria will define elder abuse, identify key contributors to such abuse and suggest ways care staff can respond to instances of abuse. They will present a case study that demonstrates the nuances of working with older people experiencing abuse.
The webinar is aimed at people employed in aged care, as well as psychologists, social workers, counsellors and volunteers who work with older adults.
Like other countries, Australia is experiencing a rapid increase in the number of older persons. By 2031, nearly a quarter of the population is projected to be over 65. Older adults, particularly those living in residential care can have difficulties accessing services to help maintain or improve emotional wellbeing.
The Wellbeing Clinic provides counselling and befriending services. Counselling services are delivered face-to-face or via telehealth by postgraduates studying psychology, counselling or social work. The clinic also provides training in mental health practices for late life and conducts research on the psychology of ageing.
