If you live on the Sunshine Coast and want support to stay in the coastal community you love, government-funded aged care may be available through the Support at Home program. You’re likely to be eligible if you:

  • Are aged over 65 years (or over 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)
  • Are experiencing changes to mobility, memory, health or daily functioning
  • Need ongoing help beyond what friends, family or community services can provide

An aged care assessment through My Aged Care determines your approval and assigns a funding level, outlining the types of care you can receive.

The cost of home care depends on the kind of help you need and when you need it. For example, personal care, clinical services, respite and 24-hour support are all priced differently, as are evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

  • As a general guide, everyday support like personal care often starts from around $95 an hour
  • Clinical services such as nursing are higher, commonly $160 an hour or more.

If you’re approved for Support at Home funding, some of these costs may be subsidised. Any contribution is based on your individual circumstances.

No. You don’t have to put support on hold while waiting for funding to be released.

Many Sunshine Coast families choose to begin home care privately so help is in place straight away. When government funding becomes available, services can continue with consistency and without disruption.

We can also help you understand the process and support you through the wait. Discover our options for self-funding a Full Service Membership or Self-managed Membership.

That’s entirely your choice.

Some people want family to help organise appointments, communicate with the care team or keep an eye on how things are going. Others prefer a provider to manage things, with the family simply kept informed.

At Five Good Friends, care is always arranged to suit your comfort level with a focus on long-term relationships, whether you choose Full Service Membership or Self-managed Membership for aged care services in the Sunshine Coast. What matters most is that you feel supported, listened to and at ease in your own home.
