In-home aged care and disability support in Queensland

As of November 2025, the Support at Home program replaced the four-level Home Care Package with eight funding classifications. 

Your classification is set after an aged care assessment, and each classification has an annual budget paid in quarterly amounts.

For example, Classification 1 provides $11,010 per year in funding, with higher classifications offering more based on your assessed needs.

To access government-subsidised home care in Queensland, you now apply through the Support at Home program. You may be eligible if you are:

• Aged 65 or over, or 50 years or over for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples
• Living with a disability, dementia or mobility limitations
• Needing help to stay independent at home, beyond what general community services can provide

An aged care assessment will confirm whether you qualify and which funding classification you’re placed into.

You can begin receiving support straight away if you’re privately paying for your home care. This could include a mix of everyday services like personal care, respite, dementia support or 24-hour home care.

If you’re waiting on Support at Home funding (or NDIS, if you’re under 65), services will begin once your funding is released. We can help you apply, organise your services during the wait and ensure your Helpers continue seamlessly once your funding comes through.

Yes. At Five Good Friends, we offer a Self-Managed Membership for your Support at Home program, where you or a family member takes on part of the organising, things like choosing Helpers, scheduling visits or managing budgets. 

You are also able to choose a self-managed option when you are privately funding your at-home aged care. This is a good option to choose if you want to start receiving services while waiting for government support or need to top up the amount of care you currently receive.

To start disability home care in QLD, you first need an approved NDIS plan with funding for  Core Supports. Once your plan is active, you can choose a registered NDIS provider (like Five Good Friends) who will help organise in-home disability supports like personal care, help with household tasks or community participation. 

We also offer support coordination if you have it funded under your plan.

In-home NDIS care provides support in your own home, allowing you to stay independent while receiving assistance with daily tasks from a Queensland Helper. Supported accommodation (such as SIL) involves more structured support in shared or supported living environments. Five Good Friends is a registered provider of in-home and community disability supports.
