Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of respite care in Geelong varies depending on the type of support you need (e.g., a few hours of in-home assistance or 24-hour care), the length of visits, and whether support is delivered on weekends or public holidays.

If you’re using government funding (such as through Support at Home), much of the cost may be subsidised, but you may contribute depending on your income and circumstances.

For privately paid respite (out-of-pocket), please contact our team for a tailored quote based on your needs.

You may be entitled to government-subsidised in-home care if you meet the eligibility criteria and complete an aged care assessment. To access funding:

  1. Contact My Aged Care (via phone or online) to start an assessment.
  2. An assessor will visit you to understand your needs.
  3. If approved, you’ll be allocated a Support at Home package with a funding level based on your care needs.

Once approved, you can choose a provider to help you get support at home, from personal care and transport to domestic tasks and allied health.

Not necessarily. If you’re waiting for your Support at Home funding to be approved, you can start care sooner by self-funding services privately. Many people begin support while they wait, so that practical help is in place right away.

Once your government funding is confirmed, we can help transition any ongoing support into subsidised services, so there’s no disruption to care. If funding for home care is already approved, we’ll get Helpers along the Geelong Coast to help you get your services organised.

Read more about our options for self-funding a Full Service Membership or Self-Managed Membership.

Yes. Subject to funding, our team can support NDIS participants with evolving needs by adjusting services, increasing hours or coordinating additional supports as required.

Our easy-to-use app lets you and your family track your schedule, communicate with Geelong Helpers and monitor your NDIS funding. This makes managing your disability support at home much easier.

If your plan needs to be reassessed, having everything in one place can really help. The app keeps a record of your supports and changes over time, which can make it easier to track what’s working and where you might need more support.

While you will still need to provide formal evidence for reassessment, having this information available can make conversations with your Support Coordinator or the NDIS much smoother.
