Coronavirus (Covid 19) - Update - Queensland - 1 September 2020
In response to recent positive COVID-19 cases in South East Queensland, a range of measures have been put in place by the Queensland Goverment as of 31 August 2020. Visit their COVID-19 updates page for the latest information.
Urgent contact tracing is underway for the recently confirmed cases. Visit the QLD Government Contact Tracing Alerts page to identify if you have visited any of the public health alert locations . If you have been to one of the listed locations you can use the Contract Tracking Self Assessment Tool on their page to determine what you need to do next.
Use of Personal Protective Equipment
We strongly urge Helpers to ensure you have adequate supplies of PPE (masks, gloves, aprons, goggles) available in preparation for outbreaks. It is essential you are prepared with your supplies to ensure continuity of services for your Members should PPE become a mandatory requirement for community care workers. This has occured in other states with minimal notice period.
In QLD it is already a mandatory requirement to wear PPE in Aged Care Facilities and Disability Accomodation facilities as per the government guidelines. Some Members may also indicate a preference for their Helper to wear a mask and other PPE, this preference must be respected.
The QLD government have recommended use of face masks in situations where you are unable to maintain social distancing - please ensure you support your Members to do so in these environments such as accessing public transport or confined indoor spaces.
Learn more about how to use PPE correctly here.
Ordering Personal Protective Equipment
PPE supplies are currently readily available in most locations in Queensland and can be purchased at pharmacies, hardware stores such as Bunnings, Officeworks, some general grocery stores and online.
Five Good Friends has recently secured quantities of masks and gloves from the National Stockpile that we are making available to you. Helpers on the Five Good Friends platform are responsible for ensuring they have these items with them as equipment required to provide safe and high quality services to our Members. If you are unable to acquire your own PPE you can place an order with Five Good Friends. PPE from the National Stockpile is free. The cost of delivery will be charged and payment will be deducted from your next fortnightly Helper payment run. Once our supplies from the National Stockpile are exhausted, if it is difficult to source your own PPE, you will be able to purchase supplies from Five Good Friends at the full cost.
You can place an order of PPE here.
