Coronavirus (Covid 19)  - Greater Brisbane Lockdown 29.03.2021

Helpers who live and work in the Greater Brisbane Area

At 5.00pm tonight Greater Brisbane (Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, and Moreton Bay Local Government Areas) will be placed into a three day lockdown. Our Coronavirus Response Team is monitoring the situation closely. Visits can continue during this time. Helpers who work in Greater Brisbane must follow scenario 2B in the Standard Operating Procedure including wearing a mask, gloves and apron for all visits. If you do not have disposable aprons, you must remove and change the outer layer of your clothing after leaving the Member's home; this applies whether you are visiting another Member or returning home.

Helpers providing services outside of the Greater Brisbane area in Queensland must follow Scenario 2C in the Standard Operating Procedure which requires the wearing of masks for all visits.

The Queensland Department of Health website is providing updated information on the lockdown. Please read this information and follow the directives.

Areas of high concern

The lockdown comes after a person tested positive to the highly infectious United Kingdom strain of the virus. If you or your Members have been in these locations at the identified times you are encouraged to get tested.

  • quarantine at home immediately for 14 days since attending those venues at those times
  • complete the contact tracing self-assessment if you have not already been contacted by Queensland Health in relation to this potential exposure. If you are unable to complete the online contact-tracing self-assessment please call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84)
  • stay quarantined even if you get a negative test until 14 days have passed since you were last there. It can take 14 days before you may show symptoms or test positive.

Essential care worker proof

Use the Five Good Friends App along with your drivers licence to verify you are a Helper (essential care worker). Within the App you have your Helper Brokerage Agreement which you can show, you also have your photo and the address of the Member you are visiting. For privacy and confidentiality reasons only disclose the address of the Member if requested by Queensland Police, other emergency officers or Commonwealth officers

Rescheduling visits

We encourage you to liaise directly with your Members to discuss any non-essential services which may be able to be rescheduled for another time, such as yard maintenance or community access for social activities. Please update the App if you are cancelling or rescheduling any services in consultation with your Members. Personal Protective Equipment

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is now readily available in the community. Helpers on the Five Good Friends platform are responsible for ensuring they have PPE items with them as equipment required to provide safe and high quality services to our Members. If you are unable to acquire your own PPE you can place an order with Five Good Friends. PPE from the National Stockpile is free. The cost of delivery will be charged and payment will be deducted from your next fortnightly Helper payment run. Place your order here. Testing is a priority

If you have symptoms of COVID-19 such as a cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath or runny nose, even if these are mild, you should get tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible. To arrange testing contact your GP or you can visit a COVID-19 testing clinic in your area. Please advise us immediately if you are going to be tested.

COVID-19 vaccination

Last week we wrote to you about the COVID-19 vaccination roll out. Helpers are now eligible for vaccination under phase 1b of the vaccination roll out plan. Your nearest vaccination service can be quickly located by completing the Eligibility Checker.

Please remain vigilant and diligent

We urge you to be vigilant in your management of COVID-19. To date your dedicated and committed response has helped ensure the safety of your Members and the community. You provide an incredibly important service to the community at a very important time. We have written to all members asking for their understanding if Helpers do need to cancel visits at short notice. We support you to do this and will work hard to ensure minimal disruption to your Members.
